Time for an intermission!

Hi Folks,

I promise to be back by next week with a post about ARTzona.  I had a wonderful time, met some more new artists and did things I've not done before, so it was a great experience.  I'll have piccy's and other stuff to share, but things have come up.

My doggie, Ocean is currently dying (old age and blown knees), and we're spending time with her till the event happens.  My little sister was in a car accident yesterday and has a broken knee, so I will be keeping myself available for her needs and of course there's the mom who still needs some errands run this week.

I also toured the new Mormon Temple built here in Gilbert, AZ yesterday morning with my daughter and my ex-husband.  It's gorgeous!  I couldn't take any pictures inside, but I hope to have some exterior images to share shortly.

Thank you for your patience with the constant upheavals in my life.

More soon!

Big Hugs,
Meri

ARTzona 2014 Goodie Bags

Hello Folks,

Well I'm off for ARTzona!  Okay, I only have to drive 25 miles, but it feels like a getaway.  Today we set the ballroom of the Mesa Hyatt up to receive over 40 amazing artists from around the world......very exciting.

As I mentioned before, my lil sis and I were in charge of the goodie bags.  My sister Jen and I spent a few long days hitting up businesses (local) for bag stuffers (yes, we got some shopping in too) and I think the goodie bags are extra special this year.

I came up with the design for the bags, but it was a team effort to assemble them.  We used off white cotton totes that we found online for $.80 each which includes shipping.  We bought a little bit of fabric and tulle at the local fabric outlet called SAS, but for the most part, I already had everything else on hand.  I ordered button kits for the over 2.5 inch buttons that I then covered with our logo printed out on cotton fabric.   Thousands of circles of  fabric in various sizes ranging from 5.5" all the way down to 2.5" were cut.  We then layered the various layers and hand stitched and "tucked" the rounds so that we could hot glue the completed buttons on top........this creates our "sun."  This is also a removable pin, so it can be left on the bag or worn (see the closeup below).  I also made a pattern for the cacti (plural for multiple cactus) and the ground.  I then sewed (with a zigzag stitch) various layers of different colors and fabrics together to create "appliques."  Our group convened on a Thursday a few weeks ago and hot glued like crazy to assemble 40 bags.  On the following Thursday we all gathered again and stuffed the bags.

Extra goodies are supplied by myself, my friend Sharon,
and Jenny Wallick.

Little crafting extras like ribbons and rolls of handmade
paper scraps.

Vendors such as "Dick Blick" and "Jerrys Artarama"
were very generous in donations.

Coupons and various local business advertising.

Well that's all I have for now, I've gotta go get ready to leave and help set up.  I'll be back next week with piccy's from the event.

Big Hugs,
Meri

And how about even more?????

Hello yet again,

I spent a lovely morning with the amazing Karen Valentine of "My Desert Cottage" and it inspired me to clean up even more Valentines!!!!!!!

I also wanted to show you my first piece of artwork for the year long, online, event I signed up for called "Life Book 2014."  There was a warm up exercise, but I screwed up the writing on it, so I'm not showin' it.  I don't like my writing on the first week project either, but I need to get a better pen to write with on mixed media.
We drew and painted  our guardian angel, who is
supposed to protect us from our inner critic.  I accidentally
splashed some paint on her face, but I think I'll just look
at them as freckles........LOL

I do hope these graphics are inspiring you all to create some fun goodies.  If you're looking for something in particular, please don't hesitate to ask me and I'll be more than happy to send you multiples of whatever theme you are looking for.

ARTzona is fast approaching and in my next post I'll be showing you the goodie bags I designed and what's in them.  I also hope to have at least two more project pages done for "Life Book 2014" so I hope to see you back here.

Hugs,
Meri

Valentine Newbies for crafting

Howdy,

Well Christmas is coming down and it's time for Valentines Day.  I don't do a lot of decor for Valentines Day, but I do craft.  I've joined my BFF's (Sandy) Valentine swap and I'm already underway on making all the goodies.  I bought a plain basket at Goodwill and I'll show what I've done with it soon.  Lot's going on here, as usual, in addition to ARTzona at the end of this month and trying to get my lessons crammed in for "Life Book" there is my youngest daughter's birthday on the 30th and I'll be having a garage sale in February.  I was going to try and have a Valentine event, but I don't know if there will be time.....we'll see.

Here's Valentine goodies for all of you, and most of them are new or newly cleaned up, but there are a couple of repeats, too.

Enjoy and as usual, let me know what you do with them.

Hugs,
Meri
